Day Six - March 20th, 2011

Today diet-wise was a great day. However, I forgot to add something to yesterday's post so I'll just put it here.

I had just finished my steak dinner and was waiting for the boss to finish his paperwork so I could go home. I meandered over to the soon-to-be-removed ice cream bin and grabbed one of the ice cream sandwiches that they had in there, the kind with two cookies on the outside. I was just about to open it when I stopped, looked at it, and remembered that I couldn't have it. So I put it back. And there you have it... a near slip, and some good strong will-power by yours truly.

Well, back to today. I woke up at about 8 to put the last ingredient of my first meal together, and then went back to bed. When I finally woke again, it was time; I went out into the kitchen, turned off the power to the slow cooker, got a plate, and served myself some corned beef and cabbage.
It was well worth the wait. I know what some of you are saying: "But David, you can't have potatoes on this day in your diet!" Uh, do you see any potatoes? NO! I had corned beef, and cabbage, and that was all. The only change I would make for the next time I do this particular meal is to use fresh corned beef, not canned.

A little while later, as I started to feel hungry again, I popped out some oysters and made some pan-fried oysters using very little oil to grease the skillet. They were delicious! Note to self: Get small oysters next time; Medium is just too big.

For dinner, at work, I baked up a chicken breast and two drumsticks, and steamed some broccoli and cauliflower. The chicken was amazing; no added flavor, and the meat just pulled right off the bone. The veggies I topped with a smidge of garlic butter and some salt. Some of the melted garlic butter got onto some of the chicken, which added a bit of nice flavor. Sorry y'all, no pictures of the chicken unfortunately.

When I got home, I heated up a bowl of soup and used some Red Robin seasoning for flavoring. It was ok... Def. need better flavor options.

Tomorrow is the last day of the diet week. Made up food tonight since I'll be out and about almost all day tomorrow. Make sure to tune back in tomorrow and see what happens!

Cheers!

Day Five - March 19th, 2011

Well, today will be remembered for some special events, but not relating to my diet, save one. For kicks I weighed myself this afternoon and the scale tipped at 379. Progress!

I really didn't eat hardly anything today; I just wasn't hungry. I had my 12-oz petite sirloin and a big can of whole stewed tomatoes, along with a glass of ice water (seen below), and then a bowl of soup when I got home. Well, ok, I'm still working on it as I type.

In a short bit I'll be preparing some food for tomorrow, and have the next couple meals planned out already! Lots of soup to be eaten in the next two days though. That's alright, it won't be a problem!

Thanks, and I hope you are enjoying your weekend! Beat L.A.!

Day Four - March 18th, 2011

Grrr... people were still eating leftover corned beef and cabbage today... But my time will come!

Today is the midpoint of the diet week. It's all downhill from here, which is good because honestly the first part of the diet week is my weakest part. I have more urges to slip than I do on the 2nd half.

Today, for those of you new to the blog, was banana and skim milk day. And soup of course. I ate probably a dozen bananas over the course of the day. The customary half gallon of milk was consumed as well, most of it during work tonight (got called in).

I'm enjoying some soup right now. A double bowl with some of that nice spicy miso teriyaki sauce. Not bad flavor.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I am going with whole canned tomatoes, regular and not Italian style. And I have a 12-oz. petite sirloin steak that's been flavoring for the past 4 days waiting for me for dinner. Mmmm.... Just what I've been waiting for.

Thanks for reading! Any feedback or advice? Leave it in the comments!

Day Three: March 17th, 2011

Not being able to eat the traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner and sip on some Irish whisky stinks!

Not a lot to report today. I ate the rest of my veggies at work today, and almost all the grapes. I didn't have any soup until I got home from class tonight, and afterwards started the next batch because I only have about a bowl and a half left of the first round.

I am thinking I need to consult with a nutritionist to find out if I should add more meat to my diet aside from the prescribed amount. I'm concerned that once I start the weights again that my body won't be getting enough protein. Of course, I could supplement that with some soy or whey protein, but I'd rather have some chicken instead; it tastes better!

I am proud to report that since I started this blog it has gained readers in 24 states in the US as well as the capitol, and in a total of 6 countries. Thank you all for reading, and I appreciate the comments you leave as well, both of advice and of encouragement. I am very blessed to have you all as friends, family, or just in my life in general.

Day Two: March 16th, 2011

Today was a bit of a down day for me... Not that I didn't adhere to the plan, but just I wasn't really all that hungry.

I ate a 1 lb bag of baby carrots at the office today, and that got me through the work day. I tried heating up my soup twice, but I didn't get around to eating it until around the time I got home. On the way home I stopped and got the tomatoes for Steak day, and the skim milk for 'nanner day, and some more veggies to eat both today and tomorrow. I also got a half head of cabbage, for Sunday, meat day #2 (gonna have corned beef and cabbage a few days late, but it will be worth it. Saint Patty's day is tomorrow, but I'm still going to have my Irish meal. Too bad no potatoes though! )

When I got home, while heating up the soup, I started the oven and put my potato in there to bake. That was just before 6. I went over to visit my best friend and see his new baby, and then came home and had the potato with some garlic butter, along with some raw broccoli, cauliflower, and baby carrots. I would have used chives again but apparently they'd been in the fridge too long and started to spoil.

No salt or pepper though, as I forgot and was nearly finished with the potato by the time I'd thought of it. How sad! In place of the chives I put a small sprinkle of a 6-cheese blend on the top, the cheese being left over from the wraps I'd been making over the last half week of the extremely extended off-time. It was ok, but next time I'll make sure to have fresh chives or some extra green onion around. After baking for 3 hours, a little longer than intended, the skin was nice and crispy!

I've drank a lot of water and tea today, and a bit of no-sugar-added apple juice as well. I'm needing more fruit juice I think to help along, because it tastes better than water, of which I already drink tons of.

That's it for today. I'm hoping tomorrow goes much better. I'm almost out of soup so I'll have to make the 2nd half of the batch tomorrow night after class!

Thanks for reading everybody! Cheers!

Day One - March 15th, 2011

Beware the Ides of March. So it says in Julius Caesar. I suppose I should have bewared it myself, starting up on the diet again.

Not sure why, but one of the apples I bought only two nights ago was smushed and moldy in the bag with the others, so this morning I had to take extra time and take all the apples out of the bag and wash them off, and then throw out the gross one. So now I have a line of apples on the kitchen counter. What a way to start off Week 3... first being up 4 lbs and then moldy diet food, right? Well, it wasn't over yet.

When I got to the office today, I had brought three of the apples, a pouch of grapes, two bowls worth of soup, and a container of mixed fruit that was left over from the last diet week, which was still fresh. Or so it looked anyways. The only things fresh in that mixture was the three grapes and the one piece of honeydew. The blackberries, blueberries, strawberry slices, and pineapple chunks were all in various stages of mushyness. The pineapple was salvageable, but nothing else really was.

I didn't eat the apples, but started on the grapes. I offered some to my dad who pointed out that there was some mold there too! Out of a 5.5 lb bag I lost about a quarter of them from mold and mush. AND from the mushy ones they were leaking juice out of the pouch, so I got some nice stain on my hoodie. When I saw that I knew that I was doing some laundry tonight :(

The rest of the day has been alright. Ate one bowl's worth of the soup at work, then ate two at home. Finished half of the grapes that were left. Had a small cup of pineapple tidbits. Watched the Blazer game.

On a note, I bought my steak for this week; 12 oz. petite sirloin, and it's seasoning already, waiting to be cooked on Saturday. I have some veggies for tomorrow, but I need more. But I am looking forward to the baked potato!

Week 3 Official Weigh-in (pre-diet week)

Previous weight: 382.2
Current weight: 386.2

+/-: +4 lbs

13 days between cycles and this is what I get. Frankly I'm sure some of that is the remainder of the steak dinner from last night, the roughly half gallon of water I drank overnight and a poor night's sleep, but that's what the scale says... It'll come off though!
